Cassidy St. Jernquist of Pleasant Street discussed her concerns that the Land Use and Development Code does not allow her pet pig, Wilbur, to reside in her home. She requested that the Council consider changing the Ordinance to allow farm animals in her area.

Councilor Benner reported that there will be an increase in recycling fees when bringing items to Ecomaine in the future.

Councilor Stelk urged residents to take the Gorham Village Alliance’s survey which is available on the town’s website.

Councilor Hager thanked Councilors Stelk and Benner for their years of service to the Council and the Town of Gorham.

Town Manager, Ephrem Paraschak, reminded residents of the upcoming election on November 6. He reported that polls will be open from 7:00 a.m.—8:00 p.m. and reminded people that Absentee Ballots are now available in the Town Clerk’s Office until November 1.

Paraschak also reported that the Gorham Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy is coming up and he highly recommends it. You can find more information on the GPD website.

Councilor Phillips added that there will be three Meet the Candidate Nights held at the Gorham Municipal Center, October 9 for Town Council, October 16 for School Committee and October 22 for State Legislatures.

The Town Council approved a renewal liquor license for Gorham House of Pizza, LLC, located at 2 State Street.

Automobile Graveyard/Junkyard Permits for 2019 were approved for the following:

Steve Luce of LKQ Corp/Gorham Auto, Jim Stone of Casco Federal Credit Union, Gary Nelson of Chet’s Auto Sales, Gordon Reichert of Reichert’s Auto Body, Shawn Moody of Moodys/Insurance Auto Auction and John Dumbrocyo of Dumbo Enterprises.

The Town Council amended the commercial Narragansett Development District into a Mixed Use District. The full amendment can be read on the town’s website at www.gorham-me.org (6 yeas, 1 nay: Smith)

Scott Herrick’s resignation from the Planning Board, was accepted and the Town Council expressed its appreciation for his service.

The Town Council appointed Brian Plowman to the Planning Board for Scott Herrick’s remaining term.

The Town Council accepted the resignation of Megan Hills from the Baxter Memorial Library Board of Trustees and expressed its appreciation for her service on the Board of Trustees and to the Gorham Community.

Megan Gardner was appointed to the Baxter Memorial Library Board of Trustees for the remainder of Megan Hills’ term.

Saturday, November 24, 2018 has been designated “Small Business Saturday.” The Town of Gorham will celebrate local small businesses and the contributions they make to our economy and community. The Council urged residents to support small businesses and merchants on Small Business Saturday and throughout the year.

$150 was appropriated from a Contingency Account to support the Greater Portland – Archangel Sister City Program Photo Exhibition.

The Town Council asked the Ordinance Committee to review the Land Use And Development Code to allow the keeping of small pigs in the Urban Residential Zone.
