Three talented Gorham High School seniors from Lucinda Stein’s English classroom have been honored in the 19th annual Arrive Alive Creative Contest sponsored by The Law Offices of Joe Bornstein. Each year, this contest is available to Maine seniors asking them to come up with creative ways to show their peers the dangers of distracted driving and to encourage them to drive more safely. Not only does it allow for safe driving conversations in the classroom but it gives all students the opportunity to showcase their creative writing skills in a purposeful way.
There were over 1200 entries this year from 125 different schools. In Gorham, students enter their essays in the fall and wait to hear the outcome in June. During the awards ceremony on June 22nd Violet Wilson-Wood’s work “Relief and Regret” placed 3rd winning a new Apple iPad. Sidney Connolly wrote a voice mail message titled “Last Word Saved on Voicemail” winning second place and a new Apple iPad. Erin Castonguay won first place and a new laptop for her piece, “One Too Many.” Since 2017 29 GHS students have placed in the top three categories.
