Tim Thorsen was nominated by a caucus of local citizens to run as the Republican nominee for the legislative seat vacated by Rep. Kyle R. Bailey (D-Gorham). The date of the special election is January 11, 2022.
“Concerned citizens, familiar with the struggles of everyday life, need to step up during these challenging times,” said Thorsen. “I am running because of the difficulties we are experiencing, and the need to ensure Maine does not become even more unaffordable for the average family. We need to lower the costs to live here and provide incentives that attract talented young people. Together, we can get Maine back on track.”
Thorsen works as a Project Management Professional at a manufacturing and construction company located in Sanford. He is a retired US Marine Corps Colonel, a veteran of the Cold War, the Persian Gulf War (Desert Shield/Desert Storm), Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom), and of Operation Enduring Freedom in Djibouti, Africa. Thorsen is currently an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6859 (Deering Memorial Post) where he serves as the Junior Vice Commander. He is also the Junior Past Commandant of the Southern Maine Detachment of the Marine Corps League (Detachment 1324).
Tim and Rebecca, his wife of 40 years, reside in Gorham. They have two adult daughters. He is a graduate of the University of Washington.
