On May 20, the Gorham Knights of Columbus is hosting a 5K run to help support local organizations like St. Ann’s Church, Special Olympics, Local Food Pantries, ALS Association, Mother Seton House, Epilepsy Foundation, Coats for Kids, Boy Scouts of America, Maine Military Museum, Operation Ray of Light, Alpha Pregnancy Resource Center, Maine Needs Fatima, and Abba Women’s Choice.
Pre registration is $30 or $35 the day of the race. Children under 14 are $15 or $20 the day of the race. The race takes place at 9 a.m. at 299 Main Street in Gorham. The Knights of Columbus Council is an award-winning Star Council and have received many acknowledgments.
Sponsors for the event include Rowe Westbrook, Gorham Savings Bank, Hannaford, Grondin, Plummer’s Hardware, Gorham Sand and Gravel, Sebago Brewing, Broadway Gardens, Maid for You, Poland Spring, Moody’s, Nappi Distributors, Casco Federal Credit Union, Gorham House of Pizza, MK Kitchen and CP Property Services. The hope is to raise $2500 to donate to these charities.
The idea for this run was proposed as a way to race or walk in order to raise money for local charities as well as come together as a community to race for a good cause. The Knights want to raise awareness about their mission and expand community participation. Another benefit to the 5K is to educate on the organizations that benefit from the Knights of Columbus and volunteers involved in the Knights.
“The purpose of the Knights of Columbus is to serve its members and the community through youth, church, council, and community programs. Knights are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who are committed to making their community a better place, while supporting their Church.”
