The Gorham Times, Gorham, Maine's Community Newspaper

The success of the Gorham Times over the past 26 years is the result of many minds and hands, and a focus on the community and students. Without past and current Gorham High School (GHS) student interns, we would not be able to deliver all the news, especially School News, to Gorham as completely as we have. We cannot thank our interns enough for their interest, hard work and dedication to the paper. If you see any of these students around town, please thank them for volunteering their time. This year, the interns interviewed one another and wrote a profile on a fellow intern.

The Gorham Times has a new intern; an ambitious freshman from GHS, Lucia Holloway. Holloway’s interest in journalism stemmed from a desire to become more involved in the Gorham community. Despite having lived here for some time, she feels as though she doesn’t have a strong connection to the town or its current events.

Holloway’s favorite class is English, with History as a close second. Shakespeare’s plays are a favorite of hers, having read quite a few of them despite the Old English they’re written in. Her favorite play is “Hamlet”, but she hasn’t read “Romeo and Juliet”, knowing she’ll read it this coming year in class.

When asked about her career ambitions, Holloway said she wanted to be a behavioral analyst for the FBI. Her love of True Crime shows and documentaries that explore the minds of criminals only further cement her choice of occupation.

Her favorite subject is math. Outside of school, she likes to bake, especially cakes because she can decorate them.

Johnson loves interviewing people for The Gorham Times because she thinks it’s interesting to talk to them and hear what they have to say. She likes that she’s able to help spread their stories so other people can hear them too.

Channitra Ly, sophomore, is motivated to push through the challenges of returning to school five days a week with the help of her friends and family of three siblings and parents who give her a balance of comfort and structure. At school, she is taking two foreign language classes, Geometry, Physical Education 2, and American Literature Advanced. Another motivator for Ly is envisioning her future self as someone who is independent, reliable, adaptable, and honest.

Ly wanted to explore her hobbies of photography and writing through this internship and is looking forward to participating as she prepares to work with like minded individuals who will help her expand her knowledge and experiences of writing and photography.

Sager has two siblings, an 8-year-old sister and 22-year-old brother. They moved from Iraq to Westbrook when she was three. She is looking forward to meeting people in Gorham as she moved here from Westbrook just under two years ago. Sager plans to be a journalist later in life and is looking to learn about how a local paper functions.
