The GHS Girls and Boys outdoor track teams competed respectively in the SMAA Championship meet on Friday, May 27 at Falmouth High School. When the evening was all said and done, the Girls’ team finished as SMAA Champions and the Boys’ team as SMAA runner-up.
Coach John Caterina reports, the girls’ team was led by the five senior captains: Alyvia Caruso, Sydney Connolly, Emma Green, Elisabeth Loranger and Maddie Michaud. Emma won both the 100- and 200-meter races, setting a new league record in the 100. Alyvia won both the Long Jump and Triple Jump, setting a new school record in the Triple Jump.
The 4 X 100 relay team celebrates their victory on Friday as well. Maddie Michaud, Emma Green, Ashley Connolly and Sydney Connolly won in dominating fashion with a league record time. The 4 X 400 relay team also took home first place. Alyvia Caruso, Sydney Connolly, Maddie Michaud and Elisabeth Loranger make up this team.
Coach Jason Tanguay reports, the boys team took home second place in their meet. The boys were led by senior Andrew Farr who won the 200 and 400, setting a new league record in the 400. He also finished second in the 100.
Other top performers for the boys include Calvin Cummings in the 1600 and 3200, Nolan Feyler in the 300 hurdles, Evan Russo in the PV (2nd),
Lucien Beardsley in the 1600 Racewalk (2nd) and Griffin Gammon who scored 2nd in the High Jump and 3rd in the Javelin.
Both the girls’ and boys’ teams will be competing in the Class A State Championship Meet on Saturday, June 4 in Bangor.
