Dec. 31 will be here before you know it, and New Year Gorham is ready to celebrate with something fun for all ages.

“We’ve added new activities, new performances, and a very exciting grand finale,” explained NYG Coordinator Tom Hasbrouck. “Let’s start with the children’s area. One of our committee’s favorite new activities is geared for kids in their ‘tween’ years. They’ll have a chance to dance to their own beat in a glow-room (black light will make things glow!).

“Another new activity for kids is a chance to learn about whales, as they will see a life-size whale and hear about a whale’s life. Not to worry, it’s not a live whale. For young families, long-time favorites Mad Science and facepainting are also on tap and our roving magician will also return.

“And that’s just the beginning of something new. We are pleased to welcome the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine to our main stage for a special performance of one of their popular plays, “Elephant & Piggie’s ‘We are in a Play.’”

In addition, NYG will welcome Elvis to the main stage, along with many favorite performers from previous years, including the Don Roy Trio, the Gorham Community Chorus, and the Gorham High School Chamber Singers. But wait, there’s more fun: improv, physical comedy, ice skating, an affordable dinner option, robotics demonstrations, and a juggling workshop.

Perhaps the biggest new thing comes at the end. The NYG Committee is especially pleased to conclude this year’s celebration with an exciting laser light show set to music!

Thanks to generous sponsors, the cost will continue to be affordable for all. Pre-paid admission, before Christmas, will remain at $5 per person; after Christmas and at the door, the cost will be $7 per person (under two free). To prepay online, visit the Rec. Dept. website: https://gorhamme.myrec.com/info/.

A complete schedule will be included in the next issue of the Gorham Times, and also on the NYG Facebook page and website: https://www.gorham-me.org/new-year-gorham-committee.
