Village School Educational Technician

The week before winter break, all classes at Village School had the opportunity to participate in place-based learning sessions in our alternative education/maker-space classroom. Projects focused on giving students an opportunity to think outside the box and be creative.

Kindergarten students collaborated and created their own paper, working fine motor skills by drawing scribbles with crayons. Students also practiced body awareness, lying on their bellies to decorate long sheets of paper that covered the classroom floor, using watercolors and stamps made from recycled materials.

First graders enjoyed an open-ended makerspace where they created imaginative structures out of recycled materials. The outcomes ranged from homes for their toys, playgrounds, boats, and a spaceship ready to take off!

Other projects included making Goop (Similar to Play Dough) and learning the scientific method, making salt, shapes and LEGO snowflakes, designing winter lanterns, building animal habitats and more. We are so lucky to be able to take time to stretch our brains and create.
