As the Gorham community is starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel for the COVID-19 winter months, Baxter Memorial Library has teamed up with Aspire Gorham to bring a portable story walk to the young children of Gorham.
After being contacted by Curious City, Baxter Library’s youth services librarian, Heidi Whelan, said, “I’d be interested in anything families can do together that inspires literacy.”
By definition, a story walk consists of the deconstructed pages of a book being placed along a path so that families and children may read while walking to follow the story.
This story walk will feature “Cat’s Colors,” by Airlie Anderson. Generously given to our community by Curious City, the story walk will be set up and circulating with the Littlest Learners Literacy Program for Aspire Gorham.
It will be available to everyone registered with the program, including the Gorham Elementary Schools.
Baxter Library also plans on using the materials during their summer program so plenty of children can experience the walk and its interactive instructions as children go from one page to the next.
At this point, the Town of Gorham has generously printed all the materials necessary, and the story walk should be getting started as warmer weather approaches.
Visit in person at 71 South Street or online at www.baxterlibrary.org and on social media to register for the walk.
