Linda McMahon, head of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), visited the new location of Flowfold in the Gorham Industrial Park on November 9. Flowfold has had it’s headquarters in Scarborough since it began as a part time hobby/business in 2010 by co-founders Devin McNeill and James Morin.
In 2015, their product was picked up by L.L. Bean and the company has grown since then, leading them to buy a building in the Gorham Industrial Park where they plan to manufacture their products, as well as have their main office in place before the end of the year.
The company makes “minimalist gear for everyday adventures” and includes products such as wallets, backpacks, tote bags and dog collars/leashes. Every item is handmade in the USA using some of the world’s strongest and lightest fabrics and comes with a Lifetime Warranty. Thirty-six percent of their materials are recycled. Morin and McNeill shared, “We make every effort to keep materials out of landfills and on adventures.”
SBA Administrator McMahon believes Flowfold’s growth is extremely important as they focused on using recycled material to make new products. She stressed the importance of educational opportunities for future job growth, and is working closely with the Secretary of Education in furthering this goal.
