The Gorham School Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Brian Jandreau as the principal at Gorham High School (GHS) and Cheryl Fotter as the vice principal of Village Elementary School.
Jandreau most recently served Gorham’s students as the interim principal at GHS since July 1, 2016. Prior to this, Jandreau served as the assistant principal at GHS for three years, and as the assistant principal at Massabesic Middle School in Waterboro for two years.
Jandreau came into administration after having served as a high school English teacher for almost ten years at South Portland High School. He holds a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership and a Masters of Science in Education from the University of Southern Maine as well as a Bachelor of the Arts in English and Political Science from the University of New Hampshire.
Jandreau clearly outshined all other candidates during the hiring process, which included an application review, initial interview, a site visit, and a presentation in front of students and staff at GHS. We believe that he is uniquely poised to lead GHS now and well into the future. He has demonstrated his strong leadership this past year in his interim position having led GHS through a significant schedule change, unplanned practices in our crisis response plans, and through his work in helping move our proficienc-based learning system forward at the high school level. He was the clear choice having the full support of the GHS staff, students and parents.
Fotter most recently served Gorham’s students as the interim assistant principal at Village Elementary School since December 2016. Prior to this interim position, she served as the K-5 math and science coordinator in Gorham for five years, and as an elementary classroom teacher in Gorham for eight years before that.
Fotter holds a Bachelor of the Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Maine and is currently enrolled in the Masters of Science in Educational Leadership/ Curriculum Coordination program at the University of Southern Maine, which she is due to complete in the spring of 2018.
We believe that Fotter will be an incredible addition to the Village School Leadership Team. Recently, she demonstrated her abilities in leadership when she took over the leadership of Village as a new interim assistant principal when principal Brian Porter was out for an unplanned medical leave for an entire month. Fotter took the reins and the school didn’t miss a beat. Fotter was the clear choice having the full support of the Village staff, students, and parents.
We are pleased and thankful that Jandreau and Fotter have accepted their new positions and will continue to lead the great work being done at GHS and Village for years to come.
