On May 22, the Gorham School Committee unanimously voted to approve Lucas Witham as principal of Gorham Middle School.

Mr. Witham grew up in Greene, Maine, and graduated from Leavitt Area High School. His educational journey then took him to Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He continued his studies at Regent University, obtaining a master’s degree in educational leadership and is currently finalizing his Ed.D. at Liberty University.

For nearly ten years, Mr. Witham served Virginia’s education system as a High School Science Teacher, Varsity Basketball Coach, Varsity Football Coach, and Middle School Assistant Principal.

After spending nearly a decade in Virginia, Mr. Witham and his family moved back to Maine in 2023, when he was appointed as the Assistant Principal at Gorham Middle School.

Mr. Witham commented on his new position, “This school year at GMS has been one of the most rewarding experiences that I have had throughout my educational career. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the students, staff, families, and community of Gorham over the last school year, and I am thrilled that I get to continue being a part of the great work that we are doing here and serve in an even greater capacity.”
