On April 18, Montalvo Corporation, located in the Gorham Industrial Park, was awarded Phase II of a National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research grant for $750,000. Montalvo is using its seventy years of experience in the manufacturing industry to develop new technology that will improve quality, reduce waste, and increase productivity and automation in composites. The company estimates that this grant could create three to ten new jobs locally and could also lead to future expansion of their current facility.
Bryon Williams, Director of Sales and Marketing, said, “On average the NSF awards Phase I grants to about 10% of applicants. Upon completion of the Phase I grant, participants are able to apply for Phase II funding, and only about 40% of those applying are successfully awarded. This grant will be used for research and development, prototype development, testing and eventual manufacturing ramp up.”
Since 1947 the Montalvo Corporation has specialized in manufacturing, integrating and servicing a wide range of tension control products for many industries.
