On Thursday, June 10 at 10 a.m., Gorham High School’s newly established “Bee Club” will be installing two live beehives at the designated site in Robie Park. This event is safe to watch at a distance and will take approximately 40 minutes.

The GHS Bee Club consists of over 25 members and was founded by GHS Senior Brooke Phillips. 13 members have completed a beekeeping certification course over 6 weeks this past winter, taught by club advisor and GHS English teacher, Catherine Paul.

In addition to training, the Bee Club has had a fundraising booth at the Gorham Farmers Market selling handmade “bee hotels” and “seedbombs”. The club also received a $1000 grant from the Maine Agriculture in the Classroom program.

The bees are being provided by Chris Rogers of Backwoods Bee Farm in Windham, ME at a discounted price to support the student’s work.

The students are thrilled to welcome their own Gorham Ram bees to our campus and hope to harvest honey from the hives in the fall.
