Fall is a time that brings many things: the start of school, the beginning of sports seasons, and the change of weather. This year, it’s also the start of an old tradition.
For various reasons, over the past few years Gorham High School (GHS) has not had a real homecoming. There has been lack of spirit, time crunches, and, of course, who can forget the infamous homecoming dance almost four years ago.
However, 2017 is the year the high school will be making its homecoming comeback. This week is Spirit Week at GHS and each day will feature a different theme like Mainer Monday, dress for success, and class colors.
On Friday, September 22, the homecoming football game will take place against Kennebunk on the GHS home field at 7 p.m. The night promises to be exciting and memorable with an athlete and club walk during half-time, fireworks, and the school band to cap off the evening.
The homecoming dance will be held the following day, September 23, from 7 p.m. through 10 p.m. at GHS. The dance will be fall-themed, to match the spirit of homecoming, and tickets cost $10.
This year will prove to be a much more action-packed time than any other homecoming event in the recent past. The football team has been putting in some hard work and getting results, other fall teams are playing well, and there has been a huge increase in both school and town spirit.
The hope is that everyone will join GHS on September 22 for an unforgettable football game and the start of many successful homecomings to come.
