On Friday, June 9, Gorham High School seniors were given a special surprise. They were boarded onto buses taking them to each of the elementary schools and the middle school wearing their graduation caps and gowns in what is being called a “senior walk.” The seniors were greeted by students and former teachers in kindergarten through eighth grade who were standing in the halls, clapping, holding congratulatory signs, and offering high fives and, in some cases, hugs. The elementary and middle school students were wearing t-shirts purchased through a MELMAC grant. The purpose of the t-shirts, which had each student’s year of graduation on the back (i.e. kindergarteners had “Class of 2029”) and the phrase “Pursuing our Future Story,” was to build district-wide unity and to foster conversations about aspirations. GHS is hoping to establish this as an annual tradition for seniors. Pictured is senior Anne Kelly.
