On the brisk evening of November 28, Gorham residents lined Main Street to watch the annual Gorham Light Parade. Everyone was in good spirits, chatting and waving to parade participants. Anyone was welcome to decorate vehicles and participate. There were only three rules for participants: stay in your vehicle, no throwing candy, and no Santa Claus, as that was reserved for the final truck that carried Saint Nick.
The parade began just after dark, traveled down Main Street, which was briefly closed, and concluded at Robie Park with the Christmas tree lighting about an hour later. The tree will stay lit in Robie Park through the holidays.
A local GHS student who attended the event with her family commented, “It was really cool to see so many people come together to celebrate the holidays. Next year my family and I will definitely be coming back.” Surely, many attendees can agree.
Local businesses participated in the event as well as churches. Gorham’s fire trucks amazed locals as they passed, completely covered in multicolored lights. Even the plow trucks were there to celebrate, looking festive and bright.
There were repeat participants like Gorham Sand and Gravel, and first timers like O’Donal’s Nursery, decorating company trucks and waving to onlookers. “For O’Donal’s, being a part of the Gorham Light Parade was a great way to kick off the holiday season. We are already looking forward to next year,” said Amanda Sturgis of O’Donal’s Nursery.
