On Thursday, October 6, the official ribbon cutting at the new Gorham Skatepark took place. Liam Nickerson, a student advocate for the skatepark and fellow skateboarder said, “I am very excited that skateboarders of this town now have a safe place to come down and skate.” A local father named Jack said, “I used to skateboard in the 90s. I grew up in Pennsylvania and the church didn’t approve of having a skatepark where we lived. I’m so glad kids now have a safe spot to skate.”

Lee Pratt, Town Council chairman said, “I have never seen a project come together so quickly.” When Tom Dupuis, the Skatepark Project community lead, spoke at the event he said, “Thank you for believing in this.” Later he added, “I’m super excited in terms of how well this came together. I am overjoyed with the amount of support we got while proposing this project.”

The event had a huge turnout on a sunny afternoon and everyone who attended received a free Gorham Skatepark sticker. The park is now open to bikes, scooters, and skateboards.
