On Veterans Day, it is fitting that we recognize the men and women in the Armed Forces, past and present, and thank them and their families for the sacrifices they have made and will continue to make for all of us and for our country.
After years of service, members of the military can face a host of challenges that can be overwhelming when they transition to civilian life: finding meaningful employment and affordable housing, dealing with financial issues, recurring health issues, or feelings of isolation or uncertainty of where they belong, to name a few. As they age, their need for support can increase.
In Maine, three organizations with close ties to Gorham deserve special recognition this Veterans Day. They exemplify the ethic of service that runs strongly through all of our veterans: Boots2Roots, Vet2Vet Maine, and VFW Post 10879.
