The Special Olympics Torch Run began on June 6. This leg of the Torch Run started in Standish, went through Gorham, and ended at the Westbrook town line. Law Enforcement Officers from Gorham Police Department, Windham Police Department and Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office participated. The three Gorham participants were Officer Mark Sanborn, Officer Steve Hinkley and Sgt. Sears Edwards, shown from left to right. Statewide, more than 700 members of Maine law enforcement took part in the annual Special Olympics torch run which ended at the University of Maine in Orono on June 8. The Gorham Police Department has raised approximately $1,800 for the Maine Special Olympics this year through the Torch Run and Tip A Cop events.
