This horror comedy rock musical follows a meek flower shop assistant Seymour who pines for his wide-eyed co-worker Audrey. During a total eclipse, he discovers an unusual plant that he names Audrey II. Audrey II is not very healthy until Seymour discovers that she feeds only on human flesh and blood and she begins to grow larger and larger.

The growing plant attracts a great deal of business for the previously struggling store owned and operated by a hilariously desperate shop owner Mushnik. After Seymour feeds Audrey’s boyfriend, the sinister dentist Orin, to Audrey II, he must come up with more bodies for the increasingly bloodthirsty plant.

GHS’s production of “Little Shop of Horrors” promises to impress audiences with classic songs such as “Downtown (Skid Row),” “Somewhere That’s Green,” and “Suddenly Seymour.” Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, the dream team behind the songs and lyrics of “Little Shop of Horrors,” composed the score to reflect the styles of early 1960’s rock and roll, Motown and doo-wop.

This year GHS worked with Monkey Boys Productions out of Pennsylvania to rent the Audrey II puppets that can be seen throughout the show. These puppets have been used in many off-Broadway productions of “Little Shop” and along with our cast of students, these puppets really steal the show. Our Audrey II’s are operated only by student puppeteers and are quite impressive.
