If you or you and your family are looking for something to do the weekend of October 12 – 14 you will find lots of fun and interesting events taking place at the University of Southern Maine right here on the Gorham campus.
The University is inviting Alumni, students, friends and families to campus to attend athletic conference games in women’s soccer and field hockey along with Alumni games in softball, women’s basketball, women’s lacrosse, men’s basketball, and men’s lacrosse. There will be an old-fashioned band concert on the green in front of Corthell Hall on Saturday afternoon. Bring your lawn chairs.
If you want to be inspired, attend the reception for Mike McGraw, a USM alumnus and Lewiston boys’ soccer coach. He will talk about the book, “One Goal,” the story of how he helped bring together Somali refugees and local Lewiston players to become state champions. It is a timely story about overcoming the prejudices that divide us. This event is scheduled at the Alumni Reception Center for Saturday afternoon with the time to be determined.
Sunday afternoon there will be an Octoberfest-a-Fall celebration at Hodgdon Field by the water tower. This will include food trucks, a farmer’s market, pumpkin painting, caricatures, a balloon artist and much more.
The one event not taking place in Gorham will feature Chris Matthews from Hardball speaking at noon on October 12 in Hannaford Hall on the Portland campus.
