Have you heard about GOCAT? Do you know what the acronym stands for? Here is your chance to learn all about GOCAT, also known as Gorham Community Access Television.

GOCAT has been around for twenty-nine years. It is one of the oldest cable television stations in Maine with an original franchise date of Feb. 2, 1993. Since this time Gorham news and town meetings have been broadcast on Channel 3.

GOCAT serves the community and government of the Town of Gorham and is recognized as a local PEG station – Public/Educational/ Government. GOCAT programming is broadcast only to the people in the town of Gorham.

The Town of Gorham is presently in the process of re-franchising with Spectrum Cable. Within this agreement, a fee is paid to the town since Spectrum cables run over the poles in an area considered the public right of way.

In an effort to bring local information to more citizens, Gorham Community Access Media was launched to provide an opportunity to view meetings and events online. The broadcast stream is always playing through the website. To access town meetings both live and replayed, visit www.gorham-me.org/gorham-government-education-television, click play on the “tv” screen and the stream will start.

One of the things that GOCAT/ GOCAM is most proud of is partnering with the Gorham School Department for graduation ceremonies in June of 2020. Due to COVID-19 and limitations with mass gathering requirements, 6 “mini” graduations occurred over 2 days. GOCAM was able to broadcast the ceremonies locally and stream them live over the Internet so family members all over the country could watch.
