GoCAM received a 2021 Hometown Media Award from the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) Foundation in the category of Public Health Programming. Founded in 1979, the Alliance for Community Media is a national, nonprofit membership organization committed to ensuring access to electronic media for all people. The Alliance for Community Media carries forth its mission by educating, advocating and acting as a resource for the more than 3,000 Public, Educational and Governmental (PEG) cable channels nationwide.
The awards program was established to honor and promote community media, community radio, and local cable programs distributed on PEG access cable television channels. Each year, nearly one thousand entries are submitted. These entries are evaluated by a panel of judges on several factors, resulting in over 100 award winners. Awards are presented to the most creative programs that address community needs, develop diverse community involvement, challenge conventional commercial television formats, and move viewers to experience television in a different way.
“We are so delighted to win this award. It’s difficult for a small station like ours to compete with large organizations from around the country. We are thrilled that the quality of our video was recognized,” said Georgia Humphrey, Community Media Systems Manager.
This video was a collaboration with the Gorham School Department. Entitled “CoVID Precautions – Back to School Village Elementary”, it is an informational program for students and parents about what to expect as children headed back to school in the fall of 2020 during the Covid pandemic.
GoCAM entered this video for consideration as it reflected the efforts of the school to communicate with the public and to lessen the concern some students might be feeling as they returned to their studies.
Special recognition goes to the student actors that participated in the production. GoCAM would like to also recognize Narragansett Elementary School for their wonderful production. They were entered in a different category.
