On Monday, March 3, GMS Principal Lucas Witham announced to the staff that Art teacher Hannah West had been named the Maine Middle School Art Educator of the Year by the Maine Art Education Association.

In recognizing this award, Mr. Witham stated, “This is a well-deserved recognition that highlights the incredible impact she has on our students, school, and community. From leading Makerspace, organizing student showcases, and securing grants for creative opportunities, to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students, Hannah goes above and beyond every day.”

He continued; “On top of all that, Hannah is a true leader among our staff, serving on committees, mentoring future art educators, and consistently advocating for the value of arts in education. Her ability to make every student feel seen, valued, and capable of artistic success is truly remarkable.”

Gorham Middle School is extremely proud of Hannah West.
