On Friday, March 3, 10 Gorham Middle School (GMS) students participated in the 2023 District 1 Maine Music Educators Association Middle School Honors Chorus and Band Festival.

Students who auditioned in the fall and were accepted spent the day rehearsing with guest conductors. The Honors Band was directed by Phillip Edelman, associate professor of music education and director of the UMaine School of Performing Arts. The Honors Chorus was directed by Drew Albert, music teacher at Camden Hills Regional High School.

This year late winter weather caused the second day of the festival, including the performance, to be canceled. The District 1 Honors Band and Honors Chorus rehearsed all day on Friday, then performed a mini-concert Friday afternoon in the beautiful facilities at Sanford Middle and High School. The festival included students from Cape Elizabeth, Westbrook, Scarborough, Thornton Academy, Bonny Eagle, South Portland, Massabesic, Marshwood, Noble, Sacopee Valley, Sanford, York and Wells.”
