Gorham High School will present the American play, “The Crucible” this November. The drama was written by Arthur Miller about the Salem Witch Trials of 1692-93 where people were falsely accused of being witches in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. According to the PrepScholar Advice Blog, “Arthur Miller had great distaste for McCarthy’s investigations in the early 1950s, and he claims to have written The Crucible in 1953 largely as a reaction to this tense political climate. He had become fascinated with the environment of paranoia and how it affected society as a whole. When he stumbled upon the story of the Salem witch trials, he finally came up with a way to express those themes on stage.” Performances are scheduled for Nov. 8, 9 and 10, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m.

“The Crucible” is directed by Joshua Hurd who has directed musicals at GHS for several years.
