Sophomore Liana Edwards was named Gatorade Player of the Year in January, after a season in which she helped propel the Rams to win a consecutive Class A State championship. Edwards is a six-foot setter for the Rams directing the offense while also defending/blocking using her quick and tenacious athletic skills. Edwards was also named Varsity Maine Player of the Year.
The Gatorade Player of the Year award recognizes high school athletes who excel on the court, in the classroom and in the community. Each winner receives a $1000 grant to donate to a youth sports organization of their choice.
Coach Emma Tirrell shared, “We are happy to announce that Liana has the honor of representing the title of Gorham Varsity Volleyball’s first ever Gatorade Player of the Year. It is a proud moment for her dedication, hours on the court, and commitment to being a great volleyball player. I look forward to how she contributes to our program in the future and expect great things after being awarded this honor at such a young age. The future is bright!”
