The Southwestern Maine Activities Association (SMAA) championships held on Feb. 8 was nothing short of success. Coach Jason Tanguay shared, “both teams performed better than expected and many new qualifiers were added to the state roster. The girls outperformed their seeds in both the junior and senior divisions across many events and ended in an impressive fourth place, surprising themselves and many teams in the league.”

Ashley Connolly all speed at the state meet
Senior Ashley Connolly finished first in the SMAA meet in the 55, 200, 400 and 4×200 relay, earning Athlete of the Meet for the SMAA. Her times include 7.46 in the 55m, 27.07 in the 200m and 100.70 in the 400m respectively. According to coach Christina Stone, Connolly also claimed the 55m win at the track & field State championship with a time of 7.32, a career personal record (PR), and also earned second place in the 200 with a career PR.
The senior 4×200 relay comprising Emily Fadrogon, Abby Rogers, Piper Forgues and Connolly placed first in a dominating performance at the SMAA conference championship.

Griffin Gammon at the #1 podium
Griffin Gammon placed first in the senior division high jump, tying a 39-year record and breaking the GHS school record with a jump of 6’8″. The boys team also finished better than expected landing a sixth-place finish. Congratulations to these athletes and to the rest of the Rams teams during Playoff time.
