CBD American Shaman, located at at 18 Elm Street Unit 2, is now open for business. CBD American Shaman is a nationwide company with over 300 locations, the Gorham store being the first in Maine. The company prides itself on producing and selling high quality CBD products which are gluten free, organic, non-GMO, and with no heavy metals or insecticides.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a natural, non-intoxicating constituent of hemp oil with low levels of THC and is legal in all 50 states. According to Wayne Werts, owner of CBD American Shaman in Gorham, CBD is effective against a multitude of diseases and is known to help relieve a wide-range of medical problems including pain, anxiety, and inflammation. CBD products include body lotion, tinctures, capsules, edibles, topical serums, concentrates, and creams.

Although CBD American Shaman is a business looking to sell product, for Werts, his goal is to educate the public and his consumers on what CBD is. The marijuana plant is made up of two parts – CBD and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). THC is responsible for the euphoric, psychoactive or ‘high’ feeling users experience. CBD products contain little to no THC, thereby eliminating any feelings of sedation or intoxication.

“CBD is a safe, legal product, and we have received feedback from numerous customers that is has helped relieve pain, anxiety, inflammation, and countless other health problems,” said Werts.

According to Werts, what sets CBD American Shaman apart from other CBD retailers is that the franchise uses nanotechnology to refine hemp oil, bringing it back to its most bio-active and natural state. “This process makes hemp oil concentrate much more potent, making our products faster and more efficiently absorbed by the body,” he added.

Werts, his wife Deb, and their two partners chose Gorham for their store’s site due to the location, accessibility, and receptiveness of the town. “The Code Enforcement Officer, Fire Marshall, and Planning Board made our move into Gorham seamless. They were extremely accommodating and helpful. Likewise, the residents and small-business owners of Gorham have been welcoming and open to our business. We’ve found that the residents want to understand and learn about our business and CBD. We are not a dispensary, and people recognize that.”

As a former firefighter and paramedic, Werts is giving back by providing a 10% discount on all purchases by veterans, fire, police, and EMS personnel with identification.
