Despite the pandemic, the Gorham Recreation Department continued the Burn off the Turkey race, normally held the day after Thanksgiving. The first race was held in 1998 and has been a Thanksgiving tradition for many families. Sports and Community Activities Manager Jackie Langevin created the idea to keep the tradition alive by making it a virtual race.

“We had 64 people sign up for the race and we are so glad the event was able to continue and want to thank everyone who participated,” Office Manager/programmer Gail Platts said. “We will be mailing shirts to those who ordered them as soon as they come in.”

As for the race, runners were asked to print their bibs and run the course any time between November 27 and 29. Each runner was in charge of entering their times through the Gorham Rec. Department. Some walked the course, some ran, some did a bit of both, but all participants got outside and had some fun during this trying time.
