In late May, Gorham Outdoors hosted their annual Bike and Bow Biathlon at Cherry Hill Farm in Gorham. This was the club’s second time hosting the event, with 32 participants.

The event includes a one-mile bike ride on the Shaw Cherry Hill Farm trails followed by four attempts with arrows at an archery target. This was repeated four times for a total of four miles and four opportunities to hit the archery target. The two-person team event consisted of each team member riding their bikes the one-mile ride twice followed by the archery shoot.

The Annual Bike and Bow Biathlon at Cherry Hill Farm drew 32 participants and their supporters. Bikers finish their four mile ride with four opportunities to hit the archery target.

The Biathlon is a fund-raising event with all proceeds going towards helping the club sponsor other outdoor activities. Sponsors included Sebago Brewing Company, Gorham Parks and Recreation Department and Greater

Portland chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association (GPNEMBA). Volunteers for this event included track coaches Tim Spear of Gorham Middle School and Jason Tanguay of Gorham High School and Jim Karcanes, grounds and facilities manager at Gorham Rec., who wants all biking enthusiasts to know that Gorham has four mountain biking trails: Backwoods Bypass (the sandpit) located off Gaia Lane; Shaw Cherry Hill Farm; Claire Drew Trail Park and Alden Hill.

Gorham Outdoors was founded in January 2021 to get the community outdoors during the pandemic, and held their first event that year. For more information, write to gorhamoutdoors@gmail.com, or visit the club on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
