Established in 1990 by 36 veterans from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, Gorham Memorial VFW Post 10879 has grown to nearly 250 members, including those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. The post is dedicated to honoring veterans, preserving history, and strengthening community ties through various initiatives.

Each year, Gorham Memorial VFW Post 10879 organizes the town’s Memorial Day Parade, ensuring the sacrifices of service members are never forgotten. Members also place flags on veterans’ graves and work on historical preservation efforts, such as marking the final resting places of fallen heroes.

Beyond remembrance, the post actively engages with the next generation, promoting patriotism through educational programs like the Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy scholarship competitions.

These initiatives encourage students to reflect on democracy, freedom, and the sacrifices made by those in uniform.

Supporting fellow veterans is at the heart of the post’s mission. Whether providing direct assistance, advocating for veterans’ rights, or offering camaraderie, Post 10879 stands as a pillar of strength for its members. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, it adapted to continue its traditions while ensuring the safety of veterans and the community.

Through service, education, and remembrance, Gorham Memorial VFW Post 10879 remains steadfast in its commitment to honoring the past, supporting veterans, and fostering strong community connections.
