“MAMMA MIA” is a jukebox musical based on the songs of the Swedish group ABBA and tells the story of a young girl, Sophie, who is preparing for her wedding on a Greek Island. Sophie tries to uncover the mystery of her parentage and invites three men who could be her dad to the wedding much to the surprise of her mother. The resulting complications and confusion provide an opportunity to hear all of ABBA’s spirited music.
Director Josh Hurd said, “From the very beginning I wanted to showcase the music in the show. To just enhance the story of Donna and Sophie through these amazing songs. I wanted to pay tribute to ABBA by making our live band a highlight from the very
beginning. Get excited by the sound and the noise that’s going to come from that stage. It’s this great music that we all know and love. Who doesn’t love singing along to ‘Dancing Queen?’ ”
“MAMMA MIA” is directed by Joshua Hurd, and the musical director is GHS music teacher, Matt Murray. Also on the production team is choreographer, Mariel Roy, producer, Jocelyn Miller lighting designer, Joseph Strout and costume designer Darnell Stuart .
