GMS Musical Director

Live theater is finally returning to Bailey-Silcox Auditorium at Gorham Middle School (GMS) after a two-year hiatus. Just under fifty students have been working hard to piece together a production of “The Emperor’s New Clothes: The Musical”.

This musical comedy, written by Karen Boettcher-Tate with music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur, is an adaptation of the familiar folktale by Hans Christian Andersen. It is sure to leave you in stitches.

In the play, the kingdom of Glump has been fraying ever since the pampered Emperor Plumptoe (played by Alex Tukey) became wrapped up in his tasteless wardrobe. Enter two con artists (played by Elle Woodman and Zachary Bourgoin) who quickly devise an ingenious plan for fleecing the emperor in a magical cloth that they insist only the most competent people can see.

Naturally, everyone pretends to “see” the cloth for fear of being declared unfit for office. The emperor commissions the men to fabricate a new birthday suit immediately, and soon the naked truth is revealed (tastefully! The director promises!).

Come find out how the story ends Friday, March 11 at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 12 at 7 p.m., or Sunday, March 13 at 2 p.m. in the GMS auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door. Masks are required and must be worn by audience members at all times.
