On December 18th, 2020, Cumberland county was designated “yellow” by the Maine Department of Education’s classification system. This color-coded arrangement was implemented back in July to give schools guidance to safely teach students. When a county goes “yellow”, school sports essentially go “red”, meaning no in-person practices can be held.
The most recent color evaluation occurred on December 31, 2020. Unsurprisingly, Cumberland county was classified as “yellow” again. Androsoggin, York, and Oxford counties also remained “yellow”. This leaves few options for coaches and athletes. According to the “Letter To GHS Families” from athletic administrator Tim Spear, until Cumberland County goes “green” again, all extracurriculars are suspended. Virtual practices are expected. The next evaluation will be on January 15, 2021.
