The Gorham Times, Gorham, Maine's Community Newspaper

NYG Coordinator

The New Year Gorham committee has agonized for several weeks trying to figure out how to make this year’s event memorable, fun, and COVID-compliant, and we believe we’ve got it covered! Here’s what you need to know about this year’s hybrid community-wide family event to welcome the new year by celebrating performing and visual arts.

First off, New Year Gorham will air on our own community access channel 3, and will be streamed on the internet. There will be a two-hour show prior to the 5 p.m. fireworks, which will feature four of our favorite performers. The show will also feature guest emcees, much as you would see watching New Year’s Eve at Times Square, but we don’t want to ruin all the surprises yet. Just know, it will be truly fun, local entertainment!

In addition to the virtual portion of our celebration, we hope you will come to Narragansett School at 5 p.m. to watch our best ever fireworks display that will appropriately usher out 2020 and welcome 2021. Volunteer police officers will direct you to safe parking areas, where you will be asked to remain with your cars so we can maintain appropriate distance between family groups.

The third change this year is the admission fee. There isn’t any!

Even though there isn’t an admission fee, we still have expenses, and we are grateful for all the businesses and individuals who have contributed in this most challenging year. Contributions help make this possible, but the committee also relies on admission sales income. So, you can help by purchasing a New Year Gorham face mask for a $5 donation. The masks will be available for sale soon; for information about purchasing a mask, click here.

We hope you will join us in celebrating this hybrid New Year Gorham – some of it with your families at home, and some of it with others outdoors. If you have any questions, please call Virginia Wilder Cross at 222-2248.
