Michael Nault was promoted to the rank of Deputy Police Chief and was sworn in during a ceremony on November 14 at the Gorham Municipal Center. According to Chief Christopher Sanborn, “Nault has shown exemplary service to the Gorham Police Department, Town of Gorham and community in his role as Lieutenant for the last three years, and for the last 27 years with the Department.”

Nault began his law enforcement interest when he was 14 years old as a member of the Goffstown, NH Law Enforcement Police Explorers. He worked through their ranks to Captain and led the organization until he was 18 years old.

He then moved to Maine to attend the University of Southern Maine earning his Bachelor of Arts in Criminology in 1992.

In 1993, while working full-time as a communications officer for the Town of Scarborough, Nault became a reserve police officer with the Gorham and Scarborough Police Departments. He was hired full-time by the Gorham Police Department in 1996.

During his time with the Gorham Police Department, Nault has held the roles of Patrol Officer, School Resource Officer, Detective, and Communication Supervisor. In 2005, he was promoted to the rank of Patrol Sergeant, and in 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

In his role as Deputy Police Chief, he will oversee the Criminal Investigation Division. He will be responsible for the department’s Professional Standards, and he will be the department’s training coordinator, having responsibility for crisis response planning.

Nault is married and has three children.
