At press time, many GHS fall teams were in great positions heading into the last few weeks of the regular season and looking for strong playoff runs.
Field Hockey: Record 9-2; Ranked 3rd with three games remaining in the regular season. Seven different players scored at least one goal; Molly Murray, Mercy Dunn and Haley Lowell are the leading scorers. Lydia McCrillis, the starting goal keeper, has 63 saves on the season and four shutouts. Senior night is coming up on October 5 at 4 p.m.
Football: Record 3-2; Ranked 7th with wins against Westbrook (28-0), Mt. Ararat (47-24) and Messolonski (67-8). With three games left in the season, Gorham hopes to remain in playoff contention. The last home game is October 19 at 6 p.m.
Boys’ Soccer: 10-0 Ranked 1st with key victories over previously unbeaten Scarborough (4-0), South Portland (2-0), and defending Regional Champs, Portland (3-1). Andrew Rent is leading the offensive attack and Cooper Lyons is controlling the midfield while Trevor Gray anchors the defense in goal.
Girls’ Soccer: 8-0-1; Ranked 2nd with five games to go. The girls have played very tough this season and look forward to making it far into the playoffs while eyeing the Championship. Sophomore goalie Lily Courtney has yet to allow a goal this season.
Golf: Varsity Golf finished the season with a record of 5-4-0. They won two matches in a row versus Westbrook and Thornton Academy and finished the season with a win against Windham. The team captured the last spot (on a tie breaker) to qualify for States on October 6. The Rams were led by Tyler Haines who shot an 82 and qualified for individuals on October 13.
Cross Country: With only two regular season meets remaining, the cross country teams are working on preparing for a post-season run. The boys’ team currently has a record of five wins and two losses. Some of the runners who are helping the success of the boys team thus far are Jacob Sladen, Calvin Cummings, Reed Henderson, Josh Lehmann, Andrew Tinkham and Zach Green. The girls’ team currently has a record of three wins and four losses. Some of the runners who are helping the success of the girls’ team are Kate Tugman, Emily Paruk, Molly Eaton, Carson Battaglia, Stefanie Meacham and Libby Knudsen. The State Championship takes place in Belfast on October 27.
Volleyball: Gorham Varsity and JV Volleyball teams are both 9-0 this season. The varsity team is ranked first in the state and look forward to keeping their momentum going into the post season. Senior night will be celebrated at the next home game on October 4.
