The Super Blue Sturgeon Moon will occur at moonrise on Monday, Aug. 19. It will look larger and brighter than normal. It is special because it is 2024’s only “blue moon.” It should be noted that the blue moon term will be applied using the definition favored by astronomers: a blue moon being the third of four full moons in one astronomical season, instead of a blue moon being the second full moon in a calendar month. Both occurrences are relatively rare. The Sturgeon Moon is named after one of the oldest and most primitive fish species. Some believe that it spiritually signifies strength, insight and intuition.
