Village School Teachers participate in a staff development activity about BARR.

Village School is excited about BARR- Building Assets, Reducing Risk. The school was lucky to receive a grant from the State of Maine to bring this program to Village School.

BARR is an evidence-based model that offers the school a comprehensive approach to address the academic, social, and emotional needs of every student. With this grant, the staff will have access to ongoing professional development focused on academic achievement and data analysis to support the whole child. Plus, all the classrooms will be involved in U-Time lessons.

U-Time lessons are multifaceted lessons that will take place once a week, where teachers will guide students in activities meant to strengthen relationships between peers and between students and staff.

Together, Village School will explore important topics like building community, stress management, bullying prevention, and communication skills. It promises to be an incredible opportunity for growth and learning for all.
