On October 25, at about 3:30 p.m., an 18-year-old Norway resident, Casey Southworth, crashed his motorcycle into the back of a southbound Windham school bus as the bus was making a left turn from Rt. 202 onto Libby Ave. After hitting the bus, the motorcycle bounced off the bus and into the path of a car driven by Sarah Valeriani,18, of Gorham. Valeriani was not injured. Southworth was transported to Maine Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
The bus was carrying the Windham girls field hockey team, which was scheduled to play in the state quarter final at Scarborough High School. The game was rescheduled after the accident. None of the Windham students suffered serious injuries.
Rt. 202 was closed for three hours after the crash. Gorham and Windham Police as well as the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit are investigating the accident. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call the Gorham Police Department at 222-1660.
