Members of the Gorham Scout Troop 73 recently enjoyed an adventurous long weekend at Baxter State Park where activities included camping, canoeing, swimming, and hiking. The highlight of the trip was the completion of the 10-mile Travelers Loop which traverses Peak of the Ridges, The Traveler, North Traveler, and one unnamed peak. Wildlife sightings were plentiful including a moose, juvenile owl, snowshoe hare, and mink. While relaxing on the summit of The Traveler, the boys had the rare opportunity to watch a black bear grazing on the abundant blueberries available in the high mountain meadow. The troop will be hosting a car wash and bottle drive at Carter’s in Gorham on Saturday, October 1 to fund the purchase of gear for the troop, the rain date will be Sunday, October 2.
