During the Holiday break the GHS Athletic Department invited the 2000 state championship boys basketball team back to their homecourt to be recognized, during one of the Rams double header features on Dec. 30. The team was announced during halftime in light of celebrating its 25th year anniversary of their state championship; the last team to do so in 25 years. The Millennial Class B team (finished 21-1 in the regular season) and were heavily favored, which had nine seniors including All-Conference and All-State players; TJ McLeod, Ryan Burnheimer and Ryan Chicoine, plus plenty of depth from other key players.

The Boys basketball team (now in Class AA South) since the MPA added a fifth class in 2016, has yet to clinch a state championship since 2000. Last year the Rams returned to the state championship final; its first since the Rams appeared in 2005 with an eventual 3-point loss to Camden Hills. Gorham has 4 total state wins and 8 appearances in program history. The Rams got very close to clinching the title in ‘24, under new head coach Ryan Deschenes, with three stand-out players, making up 80% of the team’s scoring. All three athletes (Smith, Lecrec and Michaud) are now playing at the collegiate level.
